Week One - Introduction

Here are a few Powerpoint slides and playlist of tracks from the first week. The important things to take away from this first class are:

1) Having 'well-trained' ears implies the ability to listen to music in a way that is more analytical and thorough than most people would naturally do. This skill can be as important to a live sound engineer as any equipment used. Practice will be as important as theory in training yourself to listen like a professional sound engineer.
2) The tracks played in the po quiz should give you an idea of the wide variety of instruments used to make different styles of music. Being familiar with as many styles of music as possible will not only make you a better engineer, but also increase you chances of finding work!

Playlist:

1) Young Folks - Peter, Bjorn and John
2) Green Onions - Booker T and the MGs
3) Wake Up - Rage Against the Machine
4) Shake a Tailfeather - The Blues Brother (ft. Ray Charles)
5) So What - Miles Davis
6) Prabhujee - Ravi Shankar and George Harrison
7) Bluegrass Special - Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys
8) Imperial March (of the Floppies)
